STAKEHOLDER MEETING IN MARIBOR, 25-26 JANUARY, 2018

On January 25th and 26th, the University of Maribor held the second EDU-LAB seminar and workshop, with the main goal to finalize the description of the New Danubian governance model, including the Policy guide “How to start – Implementing the new Danubian governance model”.

The New governance model will focus on how:

  • a combination of theory and and practice is incorporated in the tertiary education,
  • a life-long learning system is developed in a systematic and sustainable way,
  • a cooperation between universities and companies in the field of teaching and research is enabled by law and stimulated by financial incentives,
  • the cooperation is a major stimulus for university research and practice oriented study programs,
  • in order to combine theory and practice, companies take over a binding and long-lasting commitment and responsibility in the learning partnership with universities

EDU-LAB E-LEARNING COURSES LAUNCHED

The goal of EDU-LAB ELCs is to create a greater awareness of the possible benefits of linking education to employment in the Danube Region and offer an overview of the possible steps that could be taken to achieve this. During the 1st year of implementation of the project EDU-LAB, the participating project partners have designed e-learning courses (ELCs) in order to enable stakeholders to contribute to better linking higher education to employment.

The following e-learning ELCs were developed:

  • Encouraging the further development of Higher Education Acts
  • Fostering the creation of more professionally-oriented study programmes
  • Enhancing professional training (train the trainers) in companies
  • Strengthening the regional economic development

The e-learning courses show a variety of best practice examples for linking education to employment in the Danube Region. By pointing out successful alignments between higher educational offers and the needs of the business sector, stakeholders will be stimulated to look for own solutions and find out what legislative and institutional bottlenecks they need to overcome at national and regional level.

OUr 3rd ivy volunteer

We are happy to welcome Mia Matkovic, our 3rd IVY Volunteer at the European Foundation for Education. She will join our team this week.

Please find her statement below:

"Growing up with a mixed cultural background, I was naturally drawn to pursuing studies in International Affairs and have continued this interest in my first professional experiences.

Following my experience of bilateral relations at the French Embassy in Serbia, I then chose to focus on intergovernmental aspects by undertaking an internship at the CoE in the Directorate of Political Affairs. I then worked for a French Liaison Prosecutor in Serbia, in the area of judicial co-operation.

Based on these experiences, I am convinced that I would like to pursue a career in an international organisation and in the field of co-operation since it is as I see it, the cornerstone of development.

As a youth myself, born in the Balkans and having grown up in France, I can’t wait to make a contribution to this great project gathering many different European countries and aiming to help young people get the bright future they deserve in their own countries."

Its objective is to collect the views of all interested parties on how to make the most of every euro of the EU budget.
