FACILITATING MACRO-REGIONAL SCOPE AND LINK UP TO SOCIO-ECONOMIC ACTORS OF RESEARCH INFRASTRUCTURES IN THE DANUBE REGION

Dear READERS!

Join us on our way ahead: Currently ResInfra@DR is preparing actions to capitalize on its achievements by creating synergies within and beyond the project. As a part of these efforts, ResInfra@DR is updating the Capitalization Strategy of the Danube Transnational Programme's Thematic Pole 2 (RDI Framework Support) which currently includes two other projects, "Embeddedness of high quality research infrastructures in the Danube Region" (RI2Integrate) and "Danube Framework for Responsible Research and Innovation using Socio-Technical Integration" (D-STIR). Further, synergies between the DTP's Thematic Pole 2 and the EU Danube Region Strategy's Priority Area 7 (Knowledge Society) are explored. Another part to enhance the uptake of ResInfra@DR's achievements is preparing events for the Work Packages 3, 4 and 5 which will focus on making the project's outputs usable for a larger number of users both within and beyond the circle of ResInfra@DR's partners.

ResInfra@DR is in constant exchange with a wide range of stakeholders! On the occassion of  this newsletter ResInfra@DR also invited partner projects with a focus on RI in the Danube macro-region to share news with us!

At this point, we like to draw your attention to the EU GDPR - improvements to the Danube Transnational Programme’s database policy & privacy controls: The Danube Transnational Programme’s MA/JS made updates relating to its Privacy regulation system to fully comply with the new data protection regulations which has come into force in the European Union on 25 May 2018 (EU General Data Protection Regulation – EUGDPR ), as it makes data protection more stringent throughout Europe! Also the ResInfra@DR project ensures strict data protection to all who have entrusted their personal informations.

We hope that you will stay in touch and that we will be able to send you further information on research infrastructure in the Danube Region and our project activities!

Sincerely,
The ResInfra@DR project team

GET YOUR COPY! Final version of ResInfra@DR training materials available for download

Between February and May 2018, the ResInfra@DR project organised three training events to build capacity for evaluation, planning, monitoring and management of research infrastructures (RIs). The trainings were attended by 95 policy-makers from RI programme owning and funding authorities, active RI operators and coordinators, and potential or active RI reviewers. Participants came from 14 Danube region countries (Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Moldova, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia and Ukraine). The first training was organised in Sofia, followed by events in Banja Luka and Bucharest. After the successful completion of all three events, the training materials were revised and finalised based on the input received from participants.

Furthermore, participants of this event will discuss and enrich the draft versions of three guidance documents concerning the following topics:

  • Ex-ante evaluation of research infrastructures
  • Monitoring of the activities of research infrastructures
  • Socio-economic impact assessment of research infrastructures.

We would appreciate the active participation of managers (practitioners), policy-makers and reviewers dealing with RI-related issues. The event is to be held on 24-25 October 2018 in Budapest. Please expect further details on programme and registration in autumn 2018.

D-STIR: Responsible innovation is taking collective care of the future through stewardship of innovation

The EC is determined to bridge the gap between the scientific community and society at large. As such, D-STIR project connects technical experts with humanists in order to leverage maximal societal and business potential by implementing Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) in the whole innovation pipeline. Innovative SMEs and research institutions from 8 European countries (RO, SK, HU, SI, CZ, DE, HR, BA) participate in testing a method that was created in the USA but adapted to the special innovation characteristics of the Danube region. Socio-Technical Integration Research is a method that helps R&I actors to take steps towards RRI implementation.
After a year and a half of project duration, partners already achieved some important goals. In the last transnational event and study visit held on 19-20 of June in Stuttgart (Germany), partners presented first results of D-STIR application. Partners’ meeting coincided with international conference on engineering technology and innovation in Stuttgart (ICE/IEEE). Beata Udvari and Nikoletta Nadas – First Hungarian Responsible Innovation Association moderated a public workshop aimed at drawing attention of the participants to responsible innovation. They presented topics of RRI and the socio-technical research integration in conjunction with industry 4.0, digitalization, robotics and self-driving cars.

NewHoRRIzon: Social Lab No 4 on Research Infrastructures, including e-Infrastructures held in Vienna

On the occassion of the Social Lab Workshop No 4, which was held in the beginning of May in Vienna, RRI expert ilse Marschalek (Centre for Social Innovation, ZSI ) introduced idea and concept of the project: With 12 participants, 5 men, 7 women, stemming from 9 different countries, respresenting 2 NCPs, 2 former ESFRI chairs, 6 researchers and evaluators as well as 2 research infrastructures project had the first workshop with a very diverse group, highly experienced in the field of research infrastructures. After a few team building activities participants immediately dived into the current working practices in the field, reflecting and assessing them against aspects addressed by the RRI concept. To attain a common understanding of RRI in such a short time turned out to be a difficult task, which could be only partly achieve. Thus, and for further readings, lab management is going to provide additional materials after the workshop!
