Danube Day is celebrated on June 29 along the whole River Basin. It highlights the anniversary of the Danube River Protection Convention, signed on June 29, 1994, in Sofia, Bulgaria. All countries of the Danube Basin jointly cherish and acknowledge the vital role of the River. DANUrB+ partnership continues the tradition of inspiring the local communities through various celebrations and festivities dedicated to the Power of the Danube! The effective engagement and participation of stakeholders is a key factor in the DANUrB+ Project. The stakeholder meetings are part of the awareness buildings + engagement and a lot of the partners succeeded in having such (mainly in person), regardless of the difficult pandemic situation.

THE ATLAS AIMS TO ENHANCE THE INTERNATIONAL VISIBILITY OF SMALL AND MEDIUM-SIZED CITIES AND TOWNS ALONG THE DANUBE

The Atlas of DANUrB+ cities is one of the key deliverables of Interreg DANUrB+ Project. The main aim of the Atlas is to enhance the international visibility of small and medium-size cities and towns along the Danube from Bratislava to the Delta through the comprehensive geographical and urban/morphological maps of these cities and towns, compiled and presented in an innovative way. These maps, supplemented by side-texts, diagrams, and photos, will cover their past and legacy/heritage, present challenges, and the future aspirations through local best practice. The Atlas will be prepared in both analogue/hardcopy and digital versions.

5TH DANURB+ INTERNATIONAL PARTNER MEETING AND CULTURAL TOURS IN SOMBOR, SERBIA

The 5th DANUrB+ International Partner Meeting took place in Sombor, Serbia on June, 15-17, 2021. It gathered journalists from Croatia and Serbia and more than 90 participants from the 6 different partner countries (Hungary, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria, Croatia, and Slovakia). The Grand Opening was in the Županija Palace where participants were welcomed by the Project Lead Prof. Bálint Kádár (BME, Hungary) and representatives of local authorities and public enterprises. Prof. Aleksandra Đukić from the University of Belgrade, Faculty of Architecture, presented the highlights for the next three days.

LAUNCHING THE DANURB+ SUMMER SCHOOL: URBAN EXPLORATION WORKSHOPS FOR YOUTH IN GIURGIU

The programme is dedicated to young people interested in discovering Giurgiu with new eyes, exploring the heritage of the city through its buildings, streets, spaces and collective stories with the aim of gaining a better understanding of the local challenges and opportunities. The educational workshops will bring together a group of young people who will learn how to look at the city past the everyday through non formal creative methods, giving them a chance to find the local stories of the city from older generations and express their experience as residents of Giurgiu. The young people will be guided by URBOTECA tutors and students of the Urbanism Faculty at “Ion Mincu” University of Architecture and Urbanism in Bucharest.

“DANUBE DAYS” FESTIVAL IN GIURGIU 2021

Association for Urban Transition relaunches the “Danube Days” Festival in Giurgiui in partnership with "Ion Mincu" University of Architecture and Urbanism and Giurgiu Municipality. From 26th to 27th of June, residents of Giurgiu are invited to take part in activities for promoting and celebrating the local heritage of the Danube and the city as part of the european project DANUrB+. The festival is aimed at promoting the cultural and social heritage of the city and its link to the Danube as a topic that can bring the community together in celebrating the social life of Giurgiu, its places and local stories. The ultimate goal is to identify local opportunities for future development of the city.

DANURB+ - CULTURAL TOURS, SITE VISITS AND CITY WALKS WILL SPICE UP THE DANURB+ INTERNATIONAL PARTNER MEETING

The DANUrB+ International Partner Meeting in Sombor, Serbia will be held on 15th – 17th June 2021. Its overflowing program will allow participants to visit several attractions and to gain knowledge from the best practices in the field of tourism from the host city and the surrounding area. Cultural tours, site visits and city walks will add value to the experience of the participants, while discussing on topics such as the developing process in peripheral shrinking cities, the Atlas of DANUrB towns, potentials of intangible heritage, etc.

THE DANURB QUALITY LABEL – COLLECTING GOOD PRACTICES, VALUABLE PRODUCTS AND SERVICES ALONG THE DANUBE

The DANUrB Quality Label stands for and uses the rich cultural heritage, economic and social development, and strong community along the Danube River. This became evident at the DANUrB+ partner meeting, which took place for two days on May 20-21, 2021. It gathered online more than 40 participants from 19 partners’ organizations and 6 Danube countries (Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary, Romania, Serbia, and Slovakia). Brainstorming has already started between the partners about its characteristics and features, branding elements, standardization for Danube Days, legal requirements, etc. Some good examples of quality labels were given from each country and there was a discussion about the most appropriate symbol, which has to be related to the Danube and will suit best the DANUrB+ slogan: “A Journey Connecting Communities”.
