The first in person DANUrB+ Partners’ Meeting and Study Trip for 2022 will be held right after the Orthodox Easter holidays, between 26th and 30th April 2022 in Timisoara and Iron Gates (Romania). Hosts and organizers of the event will be the Romanian Partners - Politechnic University of Timisoara and Euroland Banat Association, who have planned City Tour and Project’s Workshops in Timisoara on April 26th, Study Trips, Stakeholders’ Visits and Meetings along Bazias, Divici area, Moldova Nouă, Coronini, Svinita, Eibenthal, Iron Gates Region, Oravița, Resita, etc. will follow up.

REGIONAL CONFERENCE “CREATIVE DANUBE. CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES OF LIVING IN SHRINKING AND PERIPHERAL CITIES”

The DANUrB+ Regional Conference “Creative Danube. Challenges and Opportunities of Living in Shrinking and Peripheral Cities” was held in a hybrid format for 2 days on 10th March in Bucharest, Romania and on 11th March in Ruse, Bulgaria. It crossed the paths of project partners, associated partners, as well as stakeholders, students, and professionals that are concerned and interested in the possibilities for development on both, Romanian and Bulgarian settlements, along the Danube.

HISTORY REVIVED: WATERMILLS OF ILOK, CROATIA

When reading through the children’s book “Pero the Lumps Gang”, a group of pupils from the “Julija Benešića” Primary School in Ilok had a great idea for their research and topic regarding the DANUrB+ project, as the main protagonist in the book started to help his community by renovating the old mill, and the pupils, with the help of their teacher Ms. Maja Drinovac, started to think about their local heritage - the watermills on the Danube.

STUDENT EXHIBITION IN GOLUBAC, MARCH 9, 2022

The Faculty of Architecture in Belgrade organised the exhibition of student work hosted by the exhibition hall of “Veljko Dugošević” National Library in Golubac Town on March 9, 2022. It was realised through cooperation between the Faculty and the Golubac Municipality, which local Tourist Organisation is an associate partner of the faculty in DANUrB+ INTERREG Danube Project (2020-2022). The exhibition included the works from three different urban project studios, where Golubac was a research and design location.

PROJECT LAUNCH: GIURGIU “FACING THE DANUBE”

Association for Urban Transition launches the project Facing the Danube within the international program DANUrB+ in Giurgiu, aimed at promoting the local Danube heritage. The project builds in Giurgiu on the basis of the activities of 2021 that activated the city community and local representatives through heritage educational events such as DANUrB+ Summer School and Danube Days 2021. The project's desire is to turn Giurgiu into a city "Facing the Danube" through a series of activities focused on urban regeneration and cultural and touristic valorisation of the Smârda neighborhood.

POPULATION DYNAMICS, URBAN DEVELOPMENT AND ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION IN SERBIA

Branislav Antonić, the member of the project team of the Faculty of Architecture in Belgrade presented the activities and results of DANUrB+ INTERREG project as best practice in dealing with the redevelopment of middle-sized shrinking cities at a national-level meeting in Belgrade on February 10, 2022. Branislav Antonić has been involved in the preparation of a chapter in a National UNDP human development report on depopulation, covering the expertise in the urban aspects of depopulation in Serbia.

On Tuesday 11th January, Romanian partner Association for Urban Transition (A.T.U.) took part in a meeting with international actors from the Giurgiu-Ruse region for the DANUrB + project. WORKSHOP “TREAT YOUR SUPERHERO” FOR CHILDREN IN GOLUBAC, SERBIA

On Thursday, December 23, 2021, the second workshop with the children of the “Lasta” Preschool Institution in Golubac was held. The workshop was led by teaching assistants from the Faculty of Architecture – University of Belgrade, Aleksandar Grujičić and Branislav Antonić, in cooperation with Marijana Milojković, a kindergarten teacher, and Milena Đurđević, the Director of the preschool institution. It was thematically related to the recognition of tangible and intangible cultural heritage called “Treat your superhero”. The workshop aimed to get to know local customs and traditions, encouraging children to be proud of their heritage and community.
