AgriGo4Cites on Agrokomplex 2018

From 16th to 19th of August 2018 took place in Nitra (Slovakia) Agrokomplex, an international exhibition for agriculture and food industry; the event takes place every year and it is aimed at bringing closer to Slovak society farm life and agriculture.

During this four days long event a wide range of activities related to agriculture and farm were celebrated; for instance visitors could enjoy some exhibitions of farm animals, award ceremonies in animal production and quality of food, many contests such as “Cake of the Year 2018”, and other activities related with food and farm life for children and families; moreover some discussions and talks regarding agriculture policies took place, from which it should be outlined the talk about the EU Common Agricultural Policy for 2021-2027, in which participated the Deputy Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic and the Minister of Agriculture among other political personalities. The diversity of the activities allowed the assistance to the event of people of different age groups and backgrounds, in total 114.960 visitors were able to enjoy the 650 exhibitors displayed in the fair and all the activities organized. 

Thanks to the partner ENVICORP Slovakia the project AgriGo4Cities was presented to the visitors of the international event. The Slovak partner exhibited a miniature of a community garden, which helped the visitors to have an idea of how a community garden looks like, and even they had the chance to “plant their own garden”. The small and interactive community garden was well-equipped with all the facilities of a garden, such as a water source and a storeroom for gardening tools. Many families and children enjoyed the activity since they had the opportunity to become farmers for one day and plant with their own hands some peas, strawberries and raspberries, and other fruits and vegetables; this allowed children to acquire some knowledge regarding plants and trees and the benefits of some healing plants. Although not only children and families enjoyed the activity, also some handicapped and elderly people joined the ENVICORP common garden and had the chance to get familiarised with some medicinal plants that were exhibited. Moreover, thanks to the guidelines facilitated by the Slovak partner, some representatives of local municipalities could learn how to develop and implement their own community garden.
