InnoSchool - Educational mapping in Slovakia

23-08-2019

We continue publishing the results of the territorial educational frameworks mapping with Slovakia and the part that entrepreneurial education plays in the school curricula and the Slovakian students’ lives, introducing a new learning system to existing curricula and existing entrepreneurship programs and initiatives.

Entrepreneurial education

Generally, school develop curricula at least to the extent set forth by the educational standard of the relevant national education program. The national education program is the main document for creating an individual school educational program that considers specific local and regional conditions and needs. School educational program can contain courses the content of which the institution prepares individually.

Based on the national educational standard for grammar school, key competences of the graduate are competencies towards initiative and entrepreneurship (able to innovate widespread misconduct in solving tasks, plan and manage new projects with a view to achieving goals, not only in the workplace but also in everyday life) and working competences (understands the principles of business and considers its prerequisites for planning and applying).

Entrepreneurship is included in most of the study programs (and their curricula) offered by vocational secondary schools. Only a few pedagogical study programmers are absent according to the needs of their future jobs. The range of concrete courses, the form and content of that type of education, is up to decision of the concrete grammar school with respect to the all legislative requirements, like maximum number of courses for students.

Introducing a new learning system to existing curricula

The optional content of education is implemented in the school curriculum. The state is confident that schools, in cooperation with the wider community, will recognize the demands of the municipality and the region and will project them into the content of free time education. It provides schools with the opportunity to be profiled and meet the needs and interests of learners.

State Educational Program for Grammar School in the Slovak Republic identifies available optional courses, while the concrete school can apply them in the school educational program or develop their own, including innovations like new teaching methods.

Existing entrepreneurship programs & initiatives

The following entrepreneurial program exists in Slovakia: applied economics by Junior Achievement (JA) Slovakia. The JA Applied Economics Education Program offers entrepreneurial, economic and financial education for students aged 17 to 19. It is based on the acquisition of practical experience and skills in order to develop students' working, social and communication competencies. This learning-by-doing program consists of 3 core pillars - Theory, JA Company (Student Company) and Consultant. The course can be completed in one or two years.

We consider that a program that integrates more characteristics is needed for high school students, especially due to that fact that none of them have the online element that the InnoSchool innovative project has.
