InnoSchool - The end of Romania's mandate at the Presidency of the European Union Strategy for the Danube Region
31-10-2019
On 27-28 of October 2019, the National Forum of the European Union Strategy for the Danube Region (SUERD) was held in Bucharest, Romania. The event marked the end of Romania's mandate at the Presidency of the European Union Strategy for the Danube Region and was organized at the Romanian Parliament by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) and the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Administration (MDRAP).
The SUERD National Forum represents the framework of debates and decisions, with a strategic orientation role, whose main objective is to establish the priorities and lines of action of Romania in the process of implementing SUERD at national, macro-regional and European level.
MDRAP is involved in the implementation of the European Union Strategy for the Danube Region, both through the financing policies and programs it manages, as well as by assuming the role of the ground floor and the responsibility for the implementation of the Danube Strategy Point project. Through it, the MDRAP, together with the Vienna City Hall, ensures the role of secretariat of the strategy, hosting an office in this regard and supporting, through its activity, national coordinators and coordinators of priority areas.
SUERD is one of the four macro-strategies existing at the level of the European Union, co-initiated by Romania and Austria, being launched in 2011 and representing a mechanism of cooperation of the states from the Danube basin, destined for the economic, social and territorial development of the macro-region. The strategy has four main objectives: interconnection of the Danube region; environmental protection in the Danube region; increasing prosperity in the Danube region and consolidation of the Danube region.
The end of the event was marked by the ceremony to take over the rotating presidency of the European Union Strategy for the Danube Region by Croatia. The Secretary of State within the MDRAP, Virgil-Alin Chirilă, and his counterpart from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Melania-Gabriela Ciot, offered to Velimir Žunac, Secretary of State in the Ministry of Regional Development and European Funds of Croatia, the symbol of the mandate that the Croatian state will effectively exercise between November 1, 2019 - October 31, 2020.
