REFOCuS - How to harmonise forest management planning and nature conservation in riparian forests of Mura-Drava-Danube Biosphere Reserve?

28-10-2020

This was the leading question of our latest stakeholder workshop organised online on 15 October 2020 by the Institute of Lowland Forestry and Environment (ILFE). It gathered 21 participants from all REFOCuS countries. Discussion helped in refining stakeholders' previous estimations on main problems related to forest management and conservation in Biosphere Reserve that are summarised in the table below.

Table 1: Influence of specific issues in Mura-Drava-Danube Biosphere Reserve on forest management and conservation.

Even though climate change is not visible in the table, it is certainly the underlying problem for many mentioned in the table. During discussion stakeholders shared helpful suggestions and recommendations on how to move on towards healthy and resilient riparian forests in the Biosphere Reserve. These suggestions will find its place in the Handbook of riparian forest management and conservation. Handbook will be sent out for stakeholder consultations soon.
