The first Augmented Reality(AR) system operated in Alba Iulia was achieved through the „Virtual dialogues with the visitors of the ”Principia” Museum“, a smart project of Alba Iulia Municipality.

Tourists can interact with characters from the ancient Apulum (the latin name of the Alba Iulia city).

All the virtual interactions take place outside the museum, in the form of visual sequences.

The Principia Museum is also targeted by the project „ISTER-ConnectIng hiSTorical Danube rEgions Roman routes“, co-funded by European Union funds (ERDF, IPA).

The central result of the project ISTER for Alba Iulia will be the creation and implementation of an interactive ensemble inside the Princess Museum.  The solution will allow visitors to discover, in an interactive way, the Romanian heritage of Alba Iulia, but also to enter the atmosphere of the ancient Apulum.

The ISTER project is yet another proof of the constant concerns of the City Hall team to have an increasingly consistent dialog of the present with the past, and through initiatives such as the present one and the future.

About the Principia Museum

Located in the Citadel Square, the Principia Museum is the place where a part of the Principia building of the Roman castrum in Apulum is touristic highlighted. The headquarters of the 13th Legion Gemina was here, the 13th being the only legion that remained in Dacia province during the entire period of Roman occupation.

The traces of the Principia and other Roman objectives researched and highlighted in Alba Carolina Citadel is part of the „European Cultural Route of the Roman emperors and wine along the Danube”.
