The first Serbian National Conference on Cycling will be held in Novi Sad, on September 28 and 29, in the Ceremonial Hall of the Assembly of Vojvodina/Vojvodina Chamber of Commerce.

Conference participants will be addressed by international and domestic experts in the field of cycling, urban planning, traffic, education, health, sports, non-governmental organizations, as well as representatives of institutions and local self-governments in Serbia.

The conference is organized by the Danube Competence Center, which is a partner of the Danube Cycle Plans project.

"We will present the draft national strategy on cycling (2022-2026), we will discuss the development of cycling in Serbia, we will present interesting development projects, links with tourism, the cycling network of Serbia, we will exchange experiences with colleagues from abroad," says Vladimir Djumič from DCC about the conference goals. 

Citizens of Europe, including Serbia, increasingly recognize the desire to live in attractive, safe, comfortable and visually pleasing cities. We all want to breathe fresh air, live an active life and not be stressed by noise, crowds, lack of parking space.

We want to be healthy and move freely. As a continent, we expect to be climate neutral by 2050, so we need to change the way we approach issues of mobility and the use of public space. The Vienna Declaration, which was adopted on May 18, 2021 by 41 countries, including Serbia, was an important step towards achieving these goals. The report of the Serbian government in Stockholm, at the “Stockholm 50+” conference, promises that the topic of urban and active mobility will be promoted and will receive the attention it deserves.

"We are in the process of creating national strategies that will enable a wider range of activities to create a new concept of urban and active mobility for the next 10 years, and the National Cycling Strategy is one of the important strategic documents. It is necessary to hear the voice of all interested parties and to emphasize that the main goals we want to be realized through concrete actions and measures are in accordance with the Vienna Declaration and the battle for a healthier and cleaner planet," concluded Vladimir Djumic.
