YOUMIG - PARTNERS HOLD MIGRATION FORUMS AT LOCAL EVENTS

21-06-2017

In the first few months of the YOUMIG project partners began to work in groups and get organised about project tasks, which involve several tracks we call work packages. Municipal partners in Szeged (Hungary), Maribor (Slovenia), Sfantu Gheorge (Romania), Burgas, (Bulgaria), Rača-Bratislava (Slovakia), Kanjiza (Serbia) and Graz (Austria) have organised a local event in their town which included a Migration Forum where local people and stakeholders could engage in a discussion of the key issues affecting their town. With the migration forum YOUMIG attempts to gain perspective on the differences and similarities across partner countries of the Danube region regarding youth migration. A training session was also held for local municipal staff on finding and using data on their hometown.

Researchers and local experts will then use the information gathered at the meetings to construct focused interviews about youth migration phenomena, and statistical experts are looking into local data sources in order to arrive at a richer pool of data for measuring migration at the local level. This exciting yet complex work was reviewed and elaborated at the second partner meeting in Belgrade, held on June 7-8.
