Prof. dr. Jernej Dolinšek and assist. dr. Petra Rižnik from lead partner University medical center Maribor have on behalf of the project partners presented some of the results of the project with two posters: The knowledge about coeliac disease among healthcare professionals is not satisfactory in the Danube region and The use of no-biopsy approach for diagnosing children with coeliac disease is increasing.

Prof. dr. Ilma Korponay Szabo presented the poster The diagnostic yield of duodenal biopsy in cases with low positive transglutaminase serology.

Presentations were very well attended and received positive feedback by many participants of the meeting.

International Celiac Disease Symposium (ICDS) is the largest meeting focusing on celiac disease, attracting the participants from all over the world. Being held every two years it is a place where scientists, clinicians, health allied professionals, patients’ associations, and industry meet to exchange knowledge and experience and to foster cooperation. After the cancellation of the meeting in 2021 because of COVID-19 pandemic, participants from all continents met this year at the 19th International Celiac disease Symposium in Sorrento, Italy.

The Symposium started on Wednesday, October 19th and ended on Saturday, October 22nd, 2022. It provided many interesting lectures from about 100 speakers from over 30 countries. It was divided into scientific and clinical forum, covering every aspect of celiac disease including basic science with immunology, epidemiology, clinical presentation, diagnostics, and new treatment strategies. Interesting keynote lectures and roundtables were organised throughout the programme.

The presence of around 500 participants and experts from all over the world made ICDS 2022 a unique opportunity to gain new knowledge and hear the latest scientific results in area of celiac disease and to share their experience. Most of the CD SKILLS partners attended and participated actively at the meeting and it was a great opportunity to be there for all of them.

Since practically all partners attended the meeting, a short partnership meeting was organised to communicate any outstanding issues and to facilitate the preparation of partner and project reports. All partners were encouraged to attend poster tours where the results of the CD SKILLS project were presented by the partnership.
