ISTER - ISTER Project Final Event

13-12-2022

The final event of the ISTER project took place on 13 December 2022, online via ZOOM and was open to stakeholders and the general public and attended by around 80 participants from all 8 partner countries. It promoted the results of the ISTER project to a wider audience, emphasising those that are actively ahead to be used by all, even after the end of its duration.

The online meeting consisted of presentations of the ISTER project outputs and a discussion where the participants could share their observations, impressions and questions related to the ISTER project implementation.

The ISTER Project Manager (LP), Mr Sebastian Bonis, summarised the project's objectives and the challenges the consortium went through until the final fulfilment of the commitments. He highlighted the significant role of each of the partners and their contribution to the overall appearance of the outputs and results of the ISTER project at the end of its two-year implementation period.

The presentation of Blaž Barborič from the Geodetic institute of Slovenia stressed the multi-disciplinary approach of the ISTER project, digitalisation and the importance of new technologies in cultural heritage and presented the concept and technical features of the GIS Atlas of Roman Routes in the Danube Region developed within the project.

Clemens Beyer from the BOKU University in Vienna, Austria, introduced the content of the developed Interactive Tool (App) and demonstrated some of its options for searching and finding valuable information both for the Roman cultural sites along the VIA ISTER as well as for information that would facilitate any explorer along its course. Additional interest was caused by the possibility of the data being available in English and the appropriate national language of the user‘s location.

The presentation of Arch./urb. Anca Virginas from the National History Museum of Transylvania, Romania (LP) presented a retrospective of the not-easy path of the milestones and info tables installation in the partner countries.

The ISTER Final Event was honoured by the presence of the Joint Secretariat in the person of Mr Stephen Halligan, Project Officer in the Interreg Danube Transnational Program (DTP). In his address to the online meeting participants, he noted the success achieved in implementing the ISTER project, which was accompanied by all the complications arising from the unforeseen COVID and post-COVID issues.

Mr Halligan congratulated all the partners on their achievements. He drew attention to the opportunities before each for future participation in the various priorities of INTERREG and the new Danube Region Program 2021-2027.

During the ensuing discussion became clear that among the participants were influential personalities such as Mr Bernd Hallier (European Retail Academy), who took the floor to congratulate the participants on the inspiring project and its revitalising effect; Mr Andreas Schiller - one of the most influential real estate / urban and regional development journalists in Germany; Pierre Laconte (FFUE - Foundation for the Urban Environment), Mr Guenter Koch, Dr Harreither, representing Danube Limes and many other valuable stakeholders and supporters of the ISTER project.
