How to apply

On this page you can find all you need to know before you start applying for funding from the Danube Region Programme.

Applications

Applications for funding can be submitted online during calls for project proposals. At minimum, three calls for proposals will be opened in the 2021-2027 programming period.

Projects are usually selected based on a two-step application procedure: in the first step, applicants submit an Expression of Interest outlining the project's objectives via the Joint Electronic Monitoring System (Jems). Promising proposals will be invited to submit a detailed Application Form.

Applications will be assessed against a set of quality criteria defined in applicants’ manual describing the programme’s expectations in terms of content. Decisions on project selection are taken by the programme’s Monitoring Committee.

Project generation

The new programme will co-finance projects to up to 80%. There is no maximum limit for the project budget set. Each project has to involve at least 3 partners from 3 different countries of the Danube Region programme area, with at least one partner being from an EU Member State of the programme area.

Partners can be local, regional, national public bodies/bodies governed by public law, international organisations and private bodies having legal personality.

Types of activities supported by the programme include the development and implementation of strategies, tools and services with transnational relevance, preparation of transnational investments to be subsequently financed through other sources, pilot activities of testing and demonstration nature as well as training and capacity building measures.

Support & finding project partners

Applicants can request individual consultations for their project ideas with the MA/JS by sending an email to the project officer in charge of the programme specific objective addressed in their project proposal. For general advice and information, we recommend to consult the respective national contact point.

For help with finding project partners or joining projects applying to the open calls for proposals, the MA/JS is preparing to introduce a new matchmaking platform. We expect it to be ready by November 2023.

It is also possible to find suitable partners in keep.eu database of projects and beneficiaries of European Union cross-border, transnational and interregional cooperation programmes (tutorial).
