ALMOST FORGOTTEN CRAFTS IN CIOCĂNEŞTI, REDISCOVERED ON TWO WHEELS

The beginning of April found us on the Danubian lands, where we are setting up cyclo trails along the natural riches of the Natura 2000 Ciocănești-Dunăre site. And as natural riches are closely linked to people living in the area, we stopped by to meet those who struggle with the challenges of preserving and perpetuating the cultural patrimony in the area.

FISHERMEN WORKSHOP IN BELENE

Two-day workshop for fishermen on Sustainable Fisheries was held in Belene on 25 and 26 April 2018. It involved nearly 80 people from the municipalities of Nikopol and Belene. The lecturers were from the regional Inspection of Fisheries and Aquaculture, WWF Bulgaria and the Foundation for the Development of Local Self-Government. The seminar was organized by WWF Bulgaria, together with the Municipality of Belene. All participants received a LENA and LIFE for Danube Sturgeons Certificate.

TRAIN THE TRAINERS WORKSHOP FOR "DANUBE GUIDES" ALONG THE DANUBE

15 participants from 6 countries were trained to become "Danube Guide" trainers, on a five-day workshop at National Park Donau-Auen in Orth (Austria). The qualification of the trainers focused on different aspects, such as nature and culture, but also didactic concepts and methods. Within the scope of regional trainings in the different countries along the Danube, the "Danube Guide" trainers will act as multipliers in their region by teaching "Danube Guides".

EDUCATION FOR BREEDERS OF BLACK SLAVONIAN PIGS

From 09. to 16. of May in Croatia in City Otok as part of LENA project was held third group of education for breeders of black Slavonian pigs from the area of Vukovar Srijem County. This event was organized by PP3 VSC as one of main pilot activity from they side. Education was organized with the aim of equalization the conditions of production and breeding of black Slavonian pigs. The event was organized in cooperation with Agriculture Faculty from Osijek and external expert with a doctorate on topic „Genetic analysis of black Slavonian pig“ professor Vladimir Margeta.

TRAINING ON WILD PLANTS IN SZATMÁR-BEREG, HUNGARY

Beregdaróc 22&23 May 2018 –  A training workshop on the sustainable use of wild plants explored cooking jam from wild berries to support the livelihood of socially vulnerable, rural population in Szatmár-Bereg region in northeast Hungary.

POLICY WORKSHOP HELD BY WWF ROMANIA IN BOHINJ

Bohinj (Slovenia), 5.06.2018 – During last week team meeting of the project, a policy workshop was held aiming to discuss with stakeholders policy makers from different levels (local, national, EU) the policy analysis developed within LENA project. The analysis evaluates to which extent nature based business and jobs are integrated and promoted by relevant sectoral policies (e.g. agriculture and rural development, tourism, fishery).

The second training workshop on the sustainable use of wild plants in and around protected areas took place in the Triglav National Park Info Centre in Stara Fužina, Bohinj, Slovenia on June 8th, 2018. Around fifteen participants (authorities from Triglav National Park, the Slovenian Forest service, the Chamber of Agriculture and Forestry of Slovenia and experts from research institutions) joined the workshop, organised jointly by the Regional Development Agency Gorenjska, BSC Kranj, Triglav National Park and TRAFFIC/WWF HU.
