BUDAPEST: AHEAD OF THE IMPLEMENTATION OF NEW POSSIBILITIES FOR REDUCTION OF MOTORIZED TRAFFIC IN URBAN AREAS

After almost all activities were completed in other work packages, the 7th project meeting held in Budapest was the overture into Pilot actions. On the last day, there was a Study visit to the Square of Novi Sad, where two primary schools are located. Separated and surrounded by narrow, one-way street, the biggest problem is the large number of vehicles passing and parking in places that are free of charge. Of course, this represents a danger for children under 14 who are still playful and do not keep an eye on traffic. Viktor Merker, senior project manager at Zuglo Municipality, announces the closure of the street for vehicles.
 

MOBILITY PILOT ACTION: FREE ELECTRIC BICYCLES FOR 90 MINUTES PER DAY IN DIMITROVGRAD - YOU ONLY NEED AN ID CARD

Municipality of Dimitrovgrad launched an e-bike sharing scheme: 20 electric bikes have been presented at the Penyo Penev Public Library, which are already available to Dimitrovgrad citizens and the guests of the city. Bikes are purchased under the Chestnut project and will contribute to measures defined by a Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan. The bikes were presented by Ivo Dimov, Mayor of Dimitrovgrad, and Yasho Minkov, Deputy Mayor and the Chestnut project manager.
 

MIX AND MOVE: CHESTNUT PARTNERS JOINED THE EUROPEAN MOBILITY WEEK THROUGH PUBLIC ACTIVITIES

The Chestnut project partners joined European Mobility Week 2018 to present the project to the public through numerous activities. As a lead partner, Municipality of Velenje encouraged people to explore the role of mobility in their daily lives and to experiment with various sustainable means as cycling or walking. The goal was to raise their awareness about more efficient, more cost-effective and more enjoyable ways of transportation that might save their time, improve health, and lower their transport costs.
 

MUNICIPALITY OF velenje strives to upgrade the bicy system: nearly 152.200 rentals in 6 years

Municipality of Velenje actively promotes planning and implementation of cycling policy in urban areas and hence supports any efforts that are contributing towards healthy and enviromentaly friendly mobility. On the Semptember 18, 2012, they have officially launched the automated Bicycle Rental/Bike Sharing system, named BICY. Following the success of this initiative and aiming to reduce the use of automobiles for short trips inside the city, Municipality of Velenje strives to upgrade the BICY system with additional stations, conventional and electrical bicycles.

Banja Luka has become a part of the global bike sharing community and is the 150th city in the world using the Next bike system. Bicycles are available to the citizens and tourists in Banja Luka. In total, 30 bicycles are available at four locations in the city. The annual ticket costs around 10 EUR, and the monthly ticket is 2,5 EUR, allowing up to 30 minutes of free use. The system will contribute to better quality of transportation in Banja Luka. The aim of the project is to popularise a healthy lifestyle, to use sustainable forms of transport as much as possible, and as few motor vehicles as possible.
 

PROJECT PARTNERS CONTINUED TO WORK ON SUSTAINABLE URBAN MOBILITY PLANS IN DUBROVNIK

How to contribute to the reduction of motorized traffic in urban city centers and thus reduce pollution and increase the quality of life? This is a question that 13 partners from 8 countries seeking the answer through a joint project called Chestnut. Dubrovnik is faced with significant traffic problems which are introduced to 50 participants of the meeting during a study visit to Dubrovnik's Old Town last May. The step towards overthrowing this complex clutch is the development of a Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan at Functional Urban Area level.
