GREEN DANUBE - follows development of LNG infrastructure in the Danube Region
03-10-2017
Experts of GREEN DANUBE project attended the opening of the first LNG fuelling point for trucks in Austria on 26th September 2017. The location of this alternative fuels infrastructure is Ennshafen - the Port of Enns - in the central area of Upper Austria, which is ideally suited for this purpose. Transport companies that rely on LNG can get the fuel of the future there, without having to accept great detours.
If there is demand for bunkering of inland vessels on the Danube, there are already plans to make LNG bunkering available at the port of Enns subsequently.
The development of alternative fuels infrastructure in the Danube Region is observed continuously by the project partners and will be reflected in a report on the status of facilities for supply of alternative fuels along the Danube in Work Package 4 “Greening Technologies”. LNG is considered the most environmental friendly fossil fuel and the only economically feasible alternative to diesel in the heavy traffic sector at the present time and it is a valid option for maritime and inland navigation.
