GREEN DANUBE - releases short movie on first set of air emissions measurements

30-01-2018

The GREEN DANUBE team finished the first set of measurements in November 2017. Sampling campaign – measuring air quality, started from Sulina Channel MM 8, Romania, continued with Sulina Channel MM 34, Danube Delta, Romania, Turnu Severin-Iron Gates I, Mehedinti, Romania, Orsova, Mehedinti, Romania, Baja-bridge (Gemenc), Hungary, Baja-upstream (Gemenc), Hungary and ended in Engelhartzell, Austria. The samplings were performed in these seven points by 24 hours’ continuous measurements of CO, NO2, NOx, SO2 and particulate matter (PM).

The sensors of the monitoring equipment recorded clear signals for NOx, CO and PM when a ship was passing. The focus of the experts’ efforts was to collect samples and measure air emissions in the selected Danube areas in order to determine the level of pollutant emissions generated, mainly, by the operation of inland vessels. There are two more expeditions to consolidate the achieved results from measurement campaigns. The second monitoring expedition will start in spring, following the same field data collection protocol.

Preliminary data is going to be presented during the 26th International Symposium “Deltas & Wetlands” organized by the Danube Delta National Institute for Research and Development between 16th and 20th May 2018 where all readers are kindly invited.                                          http://ddni.ro/wps/events/
