When developing ecotourism, it is crucial to consider the opinion of the local community. During the elaboration of the Ecotourism strategy for Košice Region, we had decided that the best option to address it was by a survey. We had identified 4 target groups: local inhabitants, tourists, municipalities, local entrepreneurs.
 
For each target group, an individual questionnaire had been developed. The aim was to see how these target groups perceive ecosystem services in the region with the emphasis on the cultural services where tourism belongs. In the second part, the deficiencies of this sector were identified.
 
The surveys were distributed in several ways, by questionnaires in person, online on social media and by direct mail.
We collected answers from:

886 local inhabitants, 
295 tourists, 
51 service providers, 
40 municipalities. 

 
In total, we have 1 272 answers. Since this was a random sample of respondents and the number of responses is sufficiently large in all cases, it is possible to consider such a sample as reliable.
