European Urban Planning at the Turn of the 20th Century

On June 21, 2022, the international conference “European Urban Planning at the Turn of the 20th Century” was successfully held at the Faculty of Architecture and Design of Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava (STUBA). The conference focused on past urban planning and sustainable management of historic urban spaces, presented the latest research into European city planning at the turn of the 20th century and emphasised what cities along the Danube were practising. The aim was to inspire good urban practices by sharing knowledge of planning history. Conference papers will be published digitally after the conference.

The keynote speakers were Prof. dr. Eve Blau, Professor of History and Theory of Urban Form and Design and Director of Research at Harvard University, Graduate School of Design, Dr. Ing. Carola Hein, professor and head of the Department of History of Architecture and Urbanism, TU Delft and Prof. dr. dr. h.c. Ákos Moravánszky, professor emeritus, ETH Zurich, Institut gta. The conference programme was opened by Prof. dr. Ing. arch. Henrieta Moravčíková, and in addition to international presenters, also authors from STUBA presented their papers: by prof. Ing. arch. Jana Pohaničová, PhD. – Ing. arch. Matúš Kiaček and Ing. arch. Monika Bočková (Institute of History and Theory of Architecture and Restoration of Monuments) and prof. Ing. arch. Ľubica Vitková, PhD. – Assoc. Ing. arch. Katarína Smatanová, PhD. – Ing. arch. Andrea Šeligová, PhD. – Ing. arch. Miroslava Kamenská (Institute of Urbanism and Spatial Planning).

The conference was part of the international project ARTNOUVEAU2 implemented within the Danube Transnational Program Interreg scheme, co-financed by the European Union funds ERDF and IPA II.
